Subject: Transformation of teaching and pedagogical approaches at EIDD
Paris, the 21/05/2023
EIDD is a university engineering school. Its specialties are rooted in the laboratories in which the school’s research professors carry out their research work. The projects, at the heart of the school’s pedagogy, benefit from cutting-edge instrumentation and draw on the research topics of the teaching team. The EIDD engineer is trained to link research, innovation and technology. He is an engineer. This profile is recognized today especially by the companies of the embedded system which recruit more graduates from the school every year.
The «system» orientation of the school also aims to give a global perspective on the problems that the EIDD engineer is required to solve. In the current context, it seems crucial to us to include the ecological transition at the heart of this global approach.
The EIDD management team has therefore begun work to overhaul the teachings and the organization of training. This process is organized in several stages.
1) Appointment of a CSR Engagement Officer
Christophe Goupil was appointed in February 2023. Deputy Director of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Tomorrow’s Energies, Scientific Advisor of the Transition Campus and Times for the planet, Christophe Goupil is driving the transformation of the teaching model so that EIDD engineers are trained in sustainable development goals and transition.
2) S5 Science Lessons Redesign
It is a question of rethinking the harmonisation EU to review the bases of chemistry, electricity and electronics in a context of transition. Two new modules, focused on four weeks, will be created:
– Repair Tech: will review the basics of electricity and electronics, as part of a repair shop for electrical and electronic objects, like what is done in repair cafe.
– Chemistry, Energy, Matter for the Ecological Transition: this involves including in the knowledge base of EIDD engineers bases of thermodynamics, essential to understand the issues related to energy exchanges and transformations.
3) Redesign of humanities education to include CSR and ethics.
4) Encouraging civic engagement through the recognition of ECTS credits.
5) Transform the teachings into a competency-based approach. A project manager, Fabien Corré, was appointed to accompany the teaching team in this process.
We hope that these different axes will enrich our School in a sustainable way and thus guide its permanent evolution to train committed engineers.
